Except for those who have legitimate mental health reasons, I don’t understand how some turn off and actively refuse to see the horrors of what is happening. Trigger or no trigger, behind our screens, thousands of miles away, our fellow human sisters and brothers, flesh and blood, are being ripped to pieces, coughing up blood, struggling to breath, dying slow deaths under rubble, some trapped forever beyond recovery because of a lack of means to extricate them, coming to terms to losing one, two, three and even four limbs.

And again comes the #ScreamingSilence.

Simply ignoring, even if and especially if you know what’s happening, for me is like pretending that acute and bloody suffering is not happening, day in day out… The result is entire families and generations lost, innocent kids orphaned in one fell sweep losing all their relatives, sentenced to a life of lonely misery, permanent physical deformation, gruesome mind-altering sickness, a life where in fact your entire people is invisible, deemed disposable, “anyway it was inevitable” and other such lifeless, immoral and boneless arguments.

#BeHuman.

Your small discomfort might move you to take action, stand up for humanity, refuse to accept obliteration, dehumanisation, eradication and of course the culture of hate and fatal othering and a licence of permissibility which will only lead to more bloodshed and fear.

#DontTurnABlindEyeToSuffering.

Tomorrow you could be in a similar position and you would want someone to put their ego aside and stand up for you. You don’t need to see everything, but beware that it’s in someone’s interest you don’t see, to feed you another narrative, that of nonchalant impunity.

You are safe, someone else is fighting for their life, nay the very existence of their kind.

Even a little dignity makes a world of difference.
